Minister for Human and Minority Rights and Social Dialogue Demo Beriša emphasised today that Serbia recognises the difficulties and problems faced by citizens of the Roma population, and that, in this regard, the role of the state, which designs and directs public policies, is of crucial importance.

Government’s contribution to integration of Roma national minority

At the 6th Ministerial Meeting on Roma Integration in Tirana, Beriša recalled that on 11 September, the Serbian government adopted a decision to establish the Coordination Body for the Improvement of the Position of Roma, headed by Prime Minister Đuro Macut.
The Minister also addressed education, highlighting a new free programme for retraining Roma from the territory of Belgrade for category D driving licenses, which will enable their employment in Belgrade public transit operator GSP Beograd.
Beriša emphasised the importance of improving the position of health mediators, as part of the activities of the Ministry for Human and Minority Rights and Social Dialogue, which are related to improving conditions for Roma in the health system.
