Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Professor Dragan Glamočić, PhD, and Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Ambassador Andreas von Beckerath visited today the Rudine Airport in Smederevska Palanka, one of four airports from which the autumn oral vaccination campaign against rabies is being conducted.

The vaccination is carried out by distributing oral baits from aircraft across the country, excluding populated areas, water surfaces and major roads.
The Minister emphasised that, thanks to long-standing cooperation with the European Union, Serbia is one step away from finally eradicating one of the most dangerous zoonoses.
Oral vaccination of wild animals against rabies is financed by the EU and since 2010, over €18 million has been invested for this purpose.
This is planned to be the last aerial campaign funded by the EU, and the final result of this multi-year programme should be that Serbia achieves the status of a rabies-free country with the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH).
