Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić today expressed gratitude to Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Israel Gideon Sa’ar for his significant contribution to the enhancement of relations between Serbia and Israel.
In a meeting with Sa’ar, Đurić emphasised that relations between Serbia and Israel are founded not only on decades of good cooperation, but also on centuries of close, friendly and fraternal relations between the Serbian and Jewish peoples, which are bound by common suffering, values and a common unwavering faith in the future.
Serbia views Israel as one of its greatest friends and key strategic partners, and therefore it is with great pleasure that we are discussing bilateral and economic, as well as political cooperation here today, the Minister stated.
The head of Serbian diplomacy reported that during today’s meeting, the launch of a strategic dialogue between the two countries was also discussed, with the aim of advancing economic cooperation, through interagency cooperation and a future joint mixed economic committee.
He pointed out that Serbia and Israel also share common positions on historical issues, including the Holocaust, the Jewish community, cultural heritage and the preservation of sites commemorating Jewish suffering.
The head of Serbian diplomacy also discussed with his Israeli counterpart the current situation in Kosovo and Metohija and informed him of the difficult position of the Serbian people in this area.
Sa’ar stated that Israel sees Serbia as a strategic anchor in the Western Balkans and that further strengthening of friendship between the two peoples is of great importance.
Đurić and Sa’ar today signed memoranda of understanding between the two ministries on bilateral consultations and diplomatic training, as well as the Cooperation Programme between the governments of Serbia and Israel for the period 2025-2028 in the fields of education, science, culture, youth and sport. The head of Serbian diplomacy also signed the Declaration on Survivors.
