Serbia ready to enhance overall cooperation with DR Congo

Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić and Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Belgrade Joseph Kalala Mulamba agreed today that the two countries have mutual interest in establishing and advancing cooperation in all areas of common interest.

Gašić expressed gratitude for the principled position of the DR Congo regarding the non-recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of the so-called Kosovo, emphasising the importance of support for Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

He said that any outcome of the Belgrade-Priština dialogue must be in accordance with United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244, the Military-Technical Agreement and other valid international documents.

The meeting highlighted that Serbia and the Congo have historical ties and relations dating back more than 60 years, which is why Serbia intends to preserve and constantly improve them, including in the field of defence.

This is also confirmed by the Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Defence between the Governments of Serbia and the DR Congo, signed in Belgrade in 2023, which provides a normative framework for the further development of cooperation.

Kalala Mulamba pointed out that the DR Congo and Serbia share the same values and expressed his belief that relations between the two countries will continue to develop to their mutual benefit.
