The Prime Minister emphasised that it was particularly egregious that during the attack, the Faculty of Philosophy building, which was being guarded by the police, was set on fire while people were still inside, stressing that this was unacceptable and that such vandalism against an academic institution is unprecedented in our history.
He praised the professional conduct of the police who, despite extremely difficult circumstances, showed courage, composure and responsibility, thereby preventing the consequences of the attack from being even greater.
“Such acts not only endanger the lives and safety of our citizens but also further deepen the crisis that the country has been facing over the past 10 months. Serbia can progress only through dialogue, discussion and peace. That is the only way to ease tensions in society and to build an atmosphere of trust and stability”, the Prime Minister stated.
He underlined that such behaviour causes enormous damage not only to the economy, but also leaves deep consequences for society as a whole.
“Today, more than ever, we need peace and stability, because only in this way can we create a healthy society with a clear perspective and future”, the Prime Minister added.
The Government of the Republic of Serbia remains committed to preserving security, protecting citizens and strengthening institutions, in order to prevent such attacks and to ensure that Serbia remains a country governed by order, law and peace.
