Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić met today, on the sidelines of the Bled Strategic Forum, with the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland’s Special Envoy to the Western Balkans Karen Pierce.
Đurić said that regular political dialogue at high and top levels is of great importance for advancing all segments of cooperation of common interest and has certainly contributed to the long tradition and history of ties between the two countries.
The head of Serbian diplomacy reiterated that Serbia is firmly committed to cooperation, open communication and respect for agreements, and that its foreign policy is based on these principles.
Speaking about regional cooperation, the Minister underlined that Serbia is dedicated to its improvement, as this contributes to peace, stability and prosperity across Europe.
With regard to Kosovo and Metohija, Đurić informed the Envoy in detail about the destabilisation of the situation and the institutional violence that the Serb population in the province faces on a daily basis.
He expressed gratitude for the support the United Kingdom provides to the process of European integration of the Western Balkans, stressing that regional initiatives are catalysts of this process, and by no means a substitute for membership in the European Union.
The interlocutors discussed the upcoming Berlin Process Summit and the preparatory meeting of foreign ministers, which will be held in Belfast in October.
The Minister confirmed that Serbia attaches particular importance to this intergovernmental initiative, which, through concrete projects and measures, supports the country’s European integration, strengthens regional cooperation, encourages development and advances the process of reconciliation in the region.
