Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić met today with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Somalia Abdisalam Abdi Ali to discuss issues of bilateral interest as well as current geopolitical topics.

Serbia firmly committed to further developing relations with Somalia

Đurić expressed gratitude for the African country’s support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia, while emphasising that Serbia likewise fully respects the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Somalia.
He stressed that Serbia is proud of its traditionally good relations and decades-long friendship with Somalia and is firmly committed to the further development and deepening of overall relations with the country.
Both sides highlighted the necessity of respecting international law and the principles of the Charter of the United Nations, without creating dangerous precedents.
The Minister particularly informed his counterpart about the situation in Kosovo and Metohija, its exceptional importance for the Serbian people not only in a territorial sense but also in historical, state-building, religious, economic and political terms, as well as about its geopolitical consequences in international relations.
Serbia pursues an independent foreign policy, which is also based on the principles of military neutrality, he said, noting that this entails the fostering of relations and cooperation with all relevant geopolitical, military and economic partners in the world.
According to him, conducting such a policy under the current circumstances on the international stage is not easy, but it is the only correct path and in the interest of Serbia.
