At today’s session, the Government of the Republic of Serbia adopted the Decree on special conditions for trade in certain types of goods, which limits retail chains’ margins on basic foodstuffs and other goods of importance for citizens’ supply.
The Decree, which enters into force on 1 September and will be valid for six months, will cap margins at a maximum of 20% for products classified in 23 categories.
Among the products whose prices will go down are milk and dairy products, composite products, eggs, non-alcoholic beverages, coffee and tea, fresh fruit and vegetables, processed fruit and vegetables, bread and pastries, legumes, frozen products, fresh and processed meat and fresh and processed fish.
Furthermore, savoury confectionery, sweet confectionery and cereals, sugar and honey, flour and pasta, oils and fats, vinegar, rice, salt and spices, household chemicals, paper and kitchen supplies, personal hygiene products and cosmetics, baby food and nappies will be cheaper.
The goal of adopting the Decree is to protect the market, that is, to prevent excessive price increases for goods of great importance for citizens’ supply.
At the session, a natural disaster was declared in six cities and 13 municipalities, namely in the cities of Prokuplje, Kruševac, Čačak, Kragujevac, Bor and Vranje and in the municipalities of Bojnik, Lebane, Ivanjica, Aleksinac, Rača, Knić, Žitorađa, Blace, Kuršumlija, Golubac, Mionica, Doljevac and Knjaževac.
The government had previously, at its session in July, declared a natural disaster in five cities and 11 municipalities.
Members of the government gave their consent to establish cooperation between the City of Belgrade’s Municipality of Surčin (Republic of Serbia) and the Municipality of Bileća (Republika Srpska) in all areas of common interest.
