Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dačić today laid a wreath at the monument to Mateja Nenadović in Brankovina, on the occasion of the 220th anniversary of the founding of the Governing Council.
Dačić recalled that Nenadović was the first president of the Governing Council, which was formed in 1805.
The Council is considered the forerunner of all executive bodies of the Serbian state, from which the first ministries later emerged in 1811, Dačić emphasised.
Dačić noted that Serbia had no internal organisation before that time, as it was under Ottoman rule, and that 1805 marked the beginning of the first, organised executive power in the country. He added that this was a sign that Serbia was rising from the ashes and laying the foundations of a modern, free state.
