Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić spoke today with US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for European and NATO Policy David Baker about improving bilateral military cooperation.
Gašić emphasised that the issue of the status of Kosovo and Metohija can only be resolved on the basis of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244, according to which the only legal armed formation in the province is KFOR, and Kosovo and Metohija is an inalienable part of Serbia.
He noted that Serbia is dedicated to initiating a strategic dialogue with the United States.
According to him, cooperation within the Partnership Program that the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces are developing with the Ohio National Guard is one of the key elements of successful bilateral military cooperation between the two countries.
The Minister also said that Serbia remains committed to participating in the peacekeeping operation in the Sinai Peninsula as part of the US contingent.
Baker emphasised that the United States highly values the partnership with Serbia and its commitment to dialogue and cooperation, and that it will continue to advance bilateral military cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
