Strengthening Serbia-China cooperation in AI, innovation

Belgrade/Shanghai, 26 July 2025

Minister without portfolio in charge of international economic cooperation and the social position of the church in the country and abroad Nenad Popović, PhD, took part in a high-level meeting on global artificial intelligence (AI) governance held within the framework of the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC).

At this global event in the field of AI, opened by Chinese Premier Li Qiang, Popović highlighted that artificial intelligence is the dominant transformative force of the 21st century, holding enormous potential – not only for advancing innovation and stimulating economic growth, but also for addressing some of the greatest challenges facing humanity.

He added that Serbia is actively involved in global development processes and is systemically building an innovation ecosystem for the advancement of AI.

According to him, Serbia is open and ready for cooperation and sees China as a strategic partner and a global beacon in the development of AI and robotics.

At the conference’s official opening, Popović had a brief meeting with Chinese Premier Li Qiang, during which he expressed gratitude for China’s continued support for Serbia in the development of new technologies.

The Premier of China extended greetings to President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić, and the citizens of Serbia, expressing hope that the relations between the two countries will become even more successful and substantial in the future.
