Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić met today with the newly appointed Head of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo and Metohija, Gerard McGurk, to discuss the increasingly difficult situation in the southern Serbian province and the systematic pressure faced by the Serb population.

Đurić particularly highlighted the unlawful arrest of Assistant Director of the Serbian government’s Office for Kosovo and Metohija Igor Popović.
He also warned of the escalation of Priština’s actions, including physical assaults, threats and home raids, aimed at intimidating the Serb population in Kosovo and Metohija and creating an atmosphere of fear and insecurity, which in recent times has led to the departure of nearly 20% of the Serb population from the north of the province.
The Minister further noted that the authorities in Priština are increasing pressure on the Serb community by initiating the construction of two bridges over the Ibar River, a move perceived as a direct security threat to the predominantly Serb population in the northern part of the province.
