Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, stated today that the decision to mark 1 September as the Day of the Non-Aligned represents a major step in further strengthening Serbia’s independent and sovereign policy.
Macut said that this move not only preserves the memory of Belgrade’s historic role in founding the Non-Aligned Movement, but also confirms our country’s strategic commitment to remain consistent to the policy of peace, cooperation and equality among nations.
He stated that the Serbian government is committed to restoring and deepening friendships with the states that build relations with Serbia on the basis of sincerity, mutual respect and solidarity – especially with the countries that respect Serbia’s territorial integrity and support our struggle to preserve the status of Kosovo and Metohija in accordance with international law.
The Prime Minister underlined that in times of global political and security instability, when conflicts are fought not only on the battlefields, but also through a fierce struggle of interests of the most powerful states, Serbia must remain firmly focused on diplomatic activity and a decisive, independent foreign policy.
