Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, visited the State Data Centre in Kragujevac today, where he attended the marking of the start of construction of a new Innovation District building.
This building, which will span approximately 5,000 square metres and is worth €13 million, is another proof of Serbia's determination to be the technological leader of Southeastern Europe, by transforming Kragujevac from an industrial centre into a technological innovation centre, Macut said.
He emphasised that the Serbian government is thus creating a model according to which it wants to develop other parts of Serbia, and this approach is not only economic, but also political and value-based, as it demonstrates the Government's commitment to decentralisation, balanced development and the creation of conditions for living and working in all parts of our country.
According to him, the "Leap into the Future - Serbia 2027" plan represents an ambitious vision of Serbia's development in which digital infrastructure is the foundation, and the IT community is the engine of change.
Macut pointed out that the State Data Centre in Kragujevac is recognised as the safest place for storing data in the region, adding that it is the only one in Eastern and Southeastern Europe that has an N5 certificate, and that this part of the centre also houses a supercomputer, which is the National Platform for Artificial Intelligence.
He said that by investing an additional €55 million, Serbia will become the owner of the most powerful supercomputer in the wider region by the end of 2025, which will be used to improve public administration, healthcare, education and the economy.
The Prime Minister explained that the plan is to make this platform available to small and medium-sized enterprises as a form of state support, which will significantly affect the competitiveness of our economy and the raising of living standards.
With this project, we are sending a clear message to young people, scientists, entrepreneurs, innovators, that the state believes in and invests in their greatest potential, because it wants them to realise their ideas and dreams here, in their own country. Serbia is no longer a country that follows other people's innovations, we are a country that creates them, Macut concluded.
