World Bank’s significant support for reform processes in Serbia

Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, spoke today with World Bank Country Manager for Serbia Nicola Pontara about current projects and future forms of cooperation between our country and this bank in the areas of public investments, energy transition, digitalisation, social protection and medicine.

The Prime Minister emphasised the importance of the World Bank’s previous support for reform processes in Serbia, including the modernisation of public administration, improving business conditions and improving the education system.

The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of investing in the Serbia Noncommunicable Diseases Prevention and Control Project, addressing diseases such as diabetes, as well as the necessity of strengthening the quality of health and clinical services.

Macut said that the government remains committed to preserving macroeconomic stability and implementing measures that lead to sustainable and inclusive growth.

Pontara praised the results achieved by Serbia in stabilising public finances and digital transformation, highlighting the World Bank’s readiness to continue supporting projects in our country that contribute to economic stability, environmental protection and reducing economic inequality.

He emphasised that Serbia has been very successful in attracting foreign direct investment in the past few years and that it is on the map of foreign investors not only in Europe but also in countries outside Europe.

The interlocutors agreed to intensify cooperation in the coming period within the framework of the new Country Partnership Framework for the period from 2025 to 2029, with a special focus on green development, improving the capacity of local governments and greater inclusion of youth in economic flows.
