Great importance of geoinformation data for fire prevention

Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, visited today the Republic Geodetic Authority, where he spoke with the institution’s management about the current situation caused by extreme weather conditions and increasingly frequent fires in the territory of our country.

The talks focused on the prevention and timely response to fire risks, as well as the improvement of the systems for monitoring and analysing data that can contribute to a faster response by the competent services.

Special attention was paid to the importance of spatial and geoinformation data in planning protective measures, as well as the need for coordinated action of all institutions, from local to national levels.

Macut underlined that the protection of human lives, households and natural resources is a priority for the state, and announced that the Serbian government will continue to invest in the capacities of emergency services and the development of early warning and prevention systems.

Director of the Republic Geodetic Authority Borko Drašković introduced the Prime Minister to the work and responsibilities of this institution, which has a large capacity to technologically and institutionally support the monitoring and analysis of fires, using geospatial data, digital tools and cooperation with other institutions.
