Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić pointed out today that Serbia contributes to the protection of international law, primarily through engagement in peacekeeping operations, and that in this way cooperation with the United Nations is constantly improving.

At a meeting with UN Assistant Secretary-General for Europe, Central Asia and the Americas Miroslav Jenča, Gašić emphasised that according to UN Security Council Resolution 1244, only KFOR forces, which are the guarantors of peace and security of the Serbian population in Kosovo and Metohija, are allowed to be present in the southern Serbian province.
The meeting emphasised that the presence and activities of UNMIK, together with KFOR forces, are of exceptional importance for ensuring the security of the Serbian and other non-Albanian population, with the assessment that it is necessary for the aforementioned mission to continue its activities in Kosovo and Metohija.
Jenča expressed gratitude to Serbia for its commitment to promoting peace and dialogue, as well as preserving stability in the region.
