Speaking to the media at the Palace of Serbia on the occasion of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Pekić noted that the number of drug users is also increasing.
According to estimates for 2023, approximately 316 million people aged 15 to 64 had used some form of narcotic drug, marking a 28% increase over the past 10 years, he said.
Pekić stressed that tackling this issue requires the engagement of society as a whole, because drug addiction and substance abuse are not challenges that can be addressed by a single ministry or government body, but are problems that concern the entire society.
Director of the Special Hospital for Addiction Diseases Dijana Raketić warned that the European drug market is expanding rapidly, with a variety of drugs available, many of which are also present in Serbia.
