The Loan Agreement was signed by the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Siniša Mali and the EBRD Director for the Western Balkans Matteo Colangeli, while Minister of Environmental Protection Sara Pavkov is the signatory of the Project Agreement.
The Air Quality Improvement Project in the Republic of Serbia aims to shut down, or remove from use, environmentally harmful boiler houses that use fossil fuels - coal or fuel oil - throughout our country.
Mali pointed out that such boiler rooms are mainly located in city centres in various public buildings, and that they are a significant source of greenhouse gas emissions and pollutants, especially during the winter season.
Pavkov assessed that this series of projects is the crown of many years of work, because after a demanding procedure, they have entered the works phase, which will intensify the fight for cleaner air.
Colangeli emphasised that the implementation of this project will bring multiple benefits in the energy and environmental sectors in the form of a significant reduction in CO₂ emissions throughout Serbia and a decrease in the share of imported energy sources and total energy consumption costs for users in the public sector.
