Advisor to the Serbian Prime Minister Slobodan Samardzic said today in Brussels that it is time to find a historical compromise for Kosovo-Metohija’s future status but warned that it will not be possible if strict deadlines and one-sided solutions are imposed.
In a promotion of Institute 4S’ CD-ROM “Kosovo 2006: The Making of a Compromise”, Samardzic presented the Serbian platform for negotiations on the province’s future status and reiterated that in the case of an imposed solution, Serbian parliament may proclaim that act invalid and that Serbia would treat Kosovo as “historically unfinished issue, which might create a large latent problem in the future”.
He said that the imposition of deadlines are also harmful for the process and that there is not a way to reach a compromise if there are time limits. He also recalled that the Kosovo problem has been going on for over a century and noted that it is not possible to find a compromise within one year’s time.
The European promotion of the CD-ROM started yesterday in Rome and will continue next week, on July 10, in Paris, and on July 11, in Vienna. The promotion in Rome was attended by advisor to Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Simic while promotions in Paris and in Vienna will be attended by advisor to Serbian President Dusan Batakovic and President of the Coordinating Centre for Kosovo-Metohija Sanda Raskovic-Ivic respectively.

After the presentation, Samardzic had a working luncheon in NATO’s headquarters in Brussels with NATO officials. Samardzic is also to meet with several EU officials.
