Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović Handanović met today with Minister of Energy and Mining of Montenegro Admir Šahmanović to discuss opportunities for cooperation in the utilisation of shared hydro resources.
The Minister noted that Serbia and Montenegro share rivers of significance for the energy sector, which is why they should jointly address challenges in the thermal power sector.
She announced that construction of the third section of the first phase of the Trans-Balkan Electricity Corridor would begin mid-year, after which the section and transmission lines between Bajina Bašta, the Montenegrin border and the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina would also be built.
Đedović Handanović stated that it is unrealistic to expect Serbia and the countries in the region to accomplish in three years what EU member states dependent on coal required much more time to achieve. She added that access to European funds is essential in order to meet requirements related to carbon emission pricing and the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).
Šahmanović said that Montenegro is willing to continue all joint initiatives and ongoing projects with Serbia.
