Agreement signed on joint controls at Preševo-Tabanovce border crossings

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dačić and Minister of the Interior of North Macedonia Panche Toshkovski today signed an Agreement between the two countries’ governments on the establishment of joint controls at the Preševo-Tabanovce border crossings for international road traffic.

Dačić noted that a new operational process is being established at these border crossings, with the aim of simplifying the entire procedure for performing border checks, so that police officers of the host country would be authorised to carry out not only entry controls for their own country, but also exit controls for the neighbouring country.

He emphasised that there is very good cooperation between the two ministries of the interior, announcing that it will continue in other segments, such as joint work during the tourism season.

Dačić specified that cooperation between the two countries will continue when it comes to illegal migration, stressing that thanks to this cooperation, a 40% decrease in so-called illegal crossings was recorded in the first four months of this year compared to the same period last year.

Toshkovski expressed satisfaction with the signing of the agreement, which is very important for the faster movement of goods and passengers, and expressed hope that the system will be officially put into operation before the start of the summer season.
