Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, spoke today with Head of the Coptic Orthodox Church, Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of Saint Mark, about the centuries-old friendly ties between Serbia and Egypt.
The Prime Minister emphasised that relations between Serbia and Egypt are grounded in shared interests in politics, economy, culture and science, noting that there is room for further improvement, especially in the areas of education and trade.
He expressed respect for the rich history and spiritual significance of the Coptic Orthodox Church and underlined that Serbia remains firmly committed to preserving religious freedom and dialogue between religions.
The Prime Minister assessed the meeting between Tawadros II and Serbian Patriarch Porfirije as extremely important for deepening cooperation between all Orthodox churches.
Macut said that this visit represents a significant historical moment and confirmation of the deep respect that Serbia and its people hold for the Coptic Orthodox Church.
The Head of the Coptic Orthodox Church spoke about the role of religious communities in contemporary society, the importance of interreligious dialogue and the strengthening of interstate and interpersonal relations.
The Serbian Orthodox Church and the Coptic Orthodox Church, as he emphasised, foster friendly relations, founded on mutual respect and shared Christian values.
During the conversation, special attention was given to the historical and spiritual connection between the Serbian and Egyptian peoples.
