During a meeting with representatives of the Serb community in the Serbian consulate in Vukovar, Dulic-Markovic said that she will make efforts to secure the same rights for Serbs in Croatia which Croatians in Serbia have.
She stressed that she is aware of the problems Serbs in Croatia are dealing with, adding that the problem should be solved step by step.
I am aware of the fact that Serbs in Croatia are facing huge problems, but Serbia must actively participate in their education, secure a place for them in the media and their right to integrate in Croatia, said the Serbian Deputy Prime Minister.
President of the Independent Serbian Democratic Party Vojislav Stanimirovic pointed out that he informed Dulic-Markovic about problems of Serbs in Croatia, adding that it is important to improve diplomatic relations between the two neighbour states.
He said that the basic problems of Serbs include sustainable existence of those who are returning and the issue of returning tenants’ rights. During the meeting they also talked about the good Croatian laws regarding minorities but which are inadequately implemented.
In that context, he particularly emphasized the constitutional law which envisages that minorities can get employment in state institutions. He added that in that area progress has been made only in eastern Croatia.
The meeting was also attended by Serbian Consul in Vukovar Bojana Ristic, heads of the Vukovar- Srijem and Osijek-Baranja districts Jovan Ajdukovic and Mile Horvat, president of the common municipalities’ council Dragan Crnogorac and president of the Serbian Democratic Forum Veljko Dzakula.
