Speaking with citizens and journalists at the Office's informational stand in Knez Mihajlova Street, placed there on the occasion of May 9, Victory Day and Europe Day, Miscevic said that that process might be even accelerated if Serbia is ready to enter the EU.
She voiced hope that all promises made by the Serbian government will be fulfilled and that Serbia will meet its last obligation to the Hague tribunal in the shortest time possible.
Serbia's European image is a bit blurred right now because of the postponement of the negotiations, Miscevic said and reiterated that a great job is ahead of us on implementing the action plan for this year, which should soon be presented in the Serbian parliament.
Miscevic stressed that Serbia must not stop on its road to European integration because that would annul all that has been done so far. She added that Serbia is going towards the European integration not because of the European Union, but because of Serbia's citizens.
Resistance to entering the EU is not typical only of Serbia because it existed and exists in all the countries that joined the EU or are currently in that process.
She explained that resistance arises because the state has to go through the process of reform of society and the economy, which entails restructuring and loss of workplaces and everything else that can have a negative impact on the economy.
Miscevic said that according to the latest survey, 40% of Serbia's citizens are in favour of EU accession, which is encouraging since Serbia is part of Europe in the geostrategic, cultural, historical and civilisational sense.
Europe Day, May 9, is being observed across all of Europe, on the day when in 1950 French foreign minister Robert Schuman presented a plan for establishing the European Coal and Steel Community, known as Schuman Declaration, with which the process of gradual and functional integration of European states began.
On the same day in 1945 the end of World War II and definite victory over fascism in Europe were declared. At the summit of EU leaders held in Milan in 1985, it was decided that this day should be observed as Europe Day.
