Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dačić today welcomed the firefighters-rescuers and members of the Helicopter Unit who have been extinguishing large fires in Greece and Bosnia and Herzegovina for the past six days.
According to him, during the international mission to help the Greek people, seven crew members of the Helicopter Unit with a fire-fighting helicopter carrying five tons of water made 50 sorties and threw out 200 tons of water.
He specified that the Kamov K-32 helicopter was engaged in the areas of the city of Kavala and the municipality of Seres to extinguish open fires, while at the same time 35 firefighters-rescuers with 12 vehicles were deployed near the place of Kalamos to prevent the spread of the fire.
The Deputy Prime Minister also stated that members of the Interor Ministry were using a Super Puma helicopter to extinguish a large fire in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in Tjentište and Bileća.
Dačić emphasised that Serbia, with its responsible policy, has once again proven that it has exceptional capacities for extinguishing fires and that it can timely and selflessly be a support and support to other countries, when necessary.
He stated that since the beginning of this year, members of the Department for Emergency Situations had 25,266 interventions in Serbia, of which the largest number was related to fires, more than 18,000.
