Vučević visited the mine on the occasion of Miners Day together with Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović Handanović and during the tour he went down to the Ravna Reka pit in Resavica and talked with employees.
Wishing them a happy Miners Day, the Prime Minister pointed out that Serbia owes gratitude and has an obligation towards 38,000 miners, who have been toiling in difficult conditions for generations.
He said that we will not implement a policy that will prohibit these people from working and living, expressing his belief that mining is Serbia's development opportunity.
The Prime Minister recalled that there are very serious traditions of successful mining in this area since the Middle Ages.
He expressed his satisfaction with the courage and diligence of the miners, but not with their salary, although this year it was increased by 10 percent.
We want to invest in better working conditions in the coming period, to renew equipment that is 40 years old. We will talk about all other projects when we receive guarantees for people's health and that nature is not endangered, said the Prime Minister.
Miners Day has been observed in Serbia since 1955, in commemoration of the great miners' strike in the Senje mine, which began on 6 August 1903, when the miners first organised an opposition to protect their rights.
