Labus pointed out that by signing the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) Serbia enters a contractual relationship with the EU, which is also significant as an incentive to continuation of economic and institutional reforms in Serbia.
Polenz said that Serbia's future is in the EU, but pointed out that the speed of Serbia's accession depends on political circumstances and fulfillment of contractual obligations.
Labus and Polenz agreed that Serbia faces many political and economic challenges - the negotiations on the future status of Kosovo-Metohija, the referendum in Montenegro, completion of cooperation with the Hague tribunal, and continuation of economic reforms.
The two officials pointed out that decentralisation and protection of minority rights in Kosovo-Metohija are prerequisites for the stability of the entire region.
