Prime Minister Miloš Vučević attended today the marking of the remembrance day of the reign of Despot Stefan Lazarević, the founder’s slava of the Manasija Monastery, which he said is one of the most important and beautiful monasteries in Serbia.
On this occasion, Vučević emphasised that it is of immeasurable importance to preserve this masterpiece of Serbian medieval architecture and art.
He added that the restoration of the monastery will have been completed by 2027, when the 600th anniversary of the death of Despot Stefan Lazarević will be observed and when the Expo begins.
He recalled that in the last three years, RSD 50 million were allocated for the reconstruction of this monastery.
Work has been completed on the eastern rampart and Tower VII, and further renovation of the dining room and the Despot's residence is planned. The state wants to help as much as it can in order to preserve this great Serbian sacred site, the Prime Minister said.
Stefan Lazarević, the son of Prince Lazar, built this monastery in the vicinity of Despotovac between 1407 and 1418.
The Manasija or Resava Monastery is one of the most significant monuments of Serbian medieval culture and the most significant building belonging to Morava Architectural School.
