Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić met today in Riga with his Latvian counterpart Baiba Braže.
Đurić pointed out that Serbia and Latvia share a common commitment to the European Union and stressed that Serbia has a clear ambition to complete all necessary reforms in order to join the European Union by 2027.
We are grateful for the vision of supporting the expansion of the European Union, not only when it comes to Serbia, but also the wider Balkan region, said Đurić, adding that it is very important to strengthen economic ties between the two countries.
He expressed gratitude to Latvia for its presence and assistance in maintaining peace and stability in Kosovo and Metohija, as part of the KFOR mission.
Also, Đurić pointed out that it is crucial to continue supporting the dialogue between Belgrade and Priština under the auspices of the EU and used the opportunity to inform his Latvian colleagues about the difficult situation of the Serbian community in Kosovo and Metohija and the challenges we face, but also to send a message that Serbia is very committed to finding rational and compromise solutions for this problem.
Braže said that she and the head of Serbian diplomacy discussed Serbia's European path, but also sensitive issues such as the crisis in Ukraine, as well as the importance of dialogue between Belgrade and Priština.
In this regard, Braže stressed that Serbia is a very important country for Latvia, both because of its importance in the region, and because of bilateral relations and future interconnection on the way to the European Union.
