Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić met in Washington with Acting Undersecretary for Political Affairs at the Department of State John Bass.
On that occasion, Đurić underlined the importance of good dynamics of meetings between Serbian and American officials and open dialogue at the highest and highest level.
Serbia and the USA are bound by 143 years of diplomatic relations and we are ready to continue strengthening our partnership in all areas of mutual interest, the head of Serbian diplomacy said.
In this regard, he assessed that opening a strategic dialogue with the USA would send a strong signal of the commitment of both countries to the common goal of continuing the qualitative and quantitative improvement of bilateral relations.
During the meeting, Đurić presented foreign policy priorities of the new government of the Republic of Serbia, among which is the completion of the implementation of key reforms on the way to membership in the European Union by 2027, thanking the American side for its support in the process of our European integration.
When it comes to Kosovo and Metohija as an issue of the greatest national importance, the head of Serbian diplomacy expressed his regret that the Priština side continues to undermine the dialogue and any attempt by Belgrade to find a compromise solution, which the entire international public had the opportunity to see again just before ten days in Brussels.
In this regard, he pointed out that, as before, Belgrade will remain a constructive partner in the process of normalising relations with Priština, but also that, on the other hand, a more active presence of the international community is needed, so that the temporary institutions of self-government in Priština can finally fulfilled the obligations assumed more than a decade ago, according to a statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
