Serbian Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Ivana Dulic-Markovic today called upon citizens in flooded areas to organise their resources rationally and follow the instructions of expert services, considering the fact that it is has been estimated that high river levels are to last one more month.

Dulic-Markovic told a press conference held at the Federation Palace that in the upcoming period major efforts will have to be undertaken in order to control the situation, since the prognosis from hydrometeorology in Romania and Hungary indicates further rainfalls.
According to Dulic-Markovic, the situation is most serious on the rivers Tisa and Danube near Zemun and Velikog Gradista, and water levels of the two rivers have already crossed the maximum level of the one-hundred year flood at many points.
Dulic-Markovic said that the Serbian government has made a schedule of activities on the basis of the calculated probability of changes in the water levels, in which process most of municipalities have taken over the obligation of solving the crisis situation.
She added that the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management has made an estimate of the damage for the first two weeks, which is applicable to 120,000 hectares, and warned that statistics are still being collected from all municipalities, and a new estimate will be made by the end of the week.
