Opening the first energy summit called "Balkan Oil Pipelines, When and Where" today at Belgrade's Intercontinental hotel, Labus said that the period of insecurity for this region will now be replaced by a period of prosperity.
According to Labus, the aim of the conference is to present the current realisation stages of three different pipelines: from Burgas to Alexandropoulos, from Burgas to Valona and from Constanta to Trieste, and also to explore alternatives.
These three oil pipelines are not competitive among themselves but complement each other, Labus said noting that particularly important is the pan-European oil pipeline (PEOP), as apart from countries in the region, central European countries are also users of crude oil.
The development of such infrastructural projects calls for partnership of private and public sectors, Labus said adding that the government is resolute to back such projects.
He pointed out that the insecurity in crude oil transportation in the region and in Europe would lead to the increase of crude oil price, which would consequently increase trade deficit and inflation in some countries.
Labus expressed satisfaction that Serbia is no more a “risk country”, but a country with new policies to its neighbours.
