At the opening of the 44th fair of commercial vehicles in Belgrade, Bubalo said that a third of Serbian vehicles in international transport have Euro 3 engines, another third Euro 2, while nearly a 100 vehicles have Euro 1 engines, which will not be accepted for use in Europe from next year.
He added that the remaining part consists of cars that have engines which are not at all up to modern technical and ecological standards.
According to Bubalo, the development of transport is of vital importance for the development of economy. Old vehicles increase transport and production costs. They also put restrictions on bilateral licenses for transport to other countries, because of this it is necessary to invest in the domestic commercial vehicles industry.
The Minister said that the solution lies in privatisation through which foreign producers can enter the Serbian economy, leading to lower prices, new sources of revenues and creation of jobs.
Bubalo expressed his expectation that the fair will allow many to find their strategic partners, and added that the tradition of motor vehicles industry in Serbia is more than a century long.
The 44th fair of commercial vehicles will last until April 8 and more than 450 exhibitors are taking part in it, from which 200 are foreign, coming from nearly 30 different countries.
