Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Miroljub Labus and the newly-appointed Belgian ambassador to Belgrade, Denise de Hauwere, agreed today that the future of Serbia lies within the EU, but that without the fulfillment of political preconditions there can be no progress toward the country's full EU memberhip.

Labus stressed that the continuaiton of the talks on the Stabilisation and Association Agreement with the EU is very good news for Serbia, adding that the Serbian negotiating team, led by himself, is completely prepared for the upcoming round of talks.
Denise de Hauwere told Labus that Belgium understands the problems Serbia is facing and also reiterated the position of the international community that the cooperation with the Hague Tribunal must be concluded by the end of April.
Speaking about the forthcoming referendum in Montenegro, Labus and de Hauwere agreed that both Serbia and Montenegro must be ready to accept results of the referendum whatever they may be and reach an agreement on their future relations.
