The Ministry of the Interior has ordered the Belgrade City Police Department and all regional police departments to enhance supervision of registration of place of residence, starting from today.
Namely, upon every application for registration of the place of residence, an electronic check by authorised persons shall be carried out, in order to determine the number of persons already registered at that address.
If the electronic check reveals that five or more persons have already been registered at that address, the competent authority shall order a mandatory field check of the fact of the citizen's residence at the address where he or she wants to get registered.
Only after the factual circumstances have been established, the authorised official shall decide on the application for registration of the place of residence.
The Ministry ordered this measure at the proposal of the Working Group for the Improvement of Election Conditions in the Republic of Serbia, in cooperation with the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR).
The aim of enhanced supervision is to eliminate even the slightest doubt about the number of voters in the upcoming elections in Belgrade, given that the electoral register is available to everyone and the number of voters is updated automatically by municipality every 90 days.
