Head of the European Commission delegation to Serbia-Montenegro Josep Lloveras handed to Director of the Veterinary Directorate at the Serbian Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Dejan Krnjajic a donation in the form of equipment worth €200,000. The equipment is intended for fighting contagious animal diseases
Lloveras said that the donation is part of a broader EU assistance programme, realised through the European Agency for Reconstruction. The purpose of the donation is to improve the health control of domestic animals and food products in Serbia.
He also said that this equipment is not only used for fighting bird flu, a current global European issue, but also other infectious animal diseases such as foot-and-mouth disease and classic swine fever.
Krnjajic expressed his gratitude for the EU's donation to Serbia and stressed that thanks to this equipment, the Veterinary Directorate will become one of the institutions in the region best equipped for preventing the spread of bird flu among poultry and to animals and humans.
He also thanked French Ambassador to Belgrade Hugues Pernet, who attended the delivery ceremony, for additional funds provided by the French embassy.
