Dimitrijevic said that the licence will be valid for five years and added that the ministry will grant more licences since there are over 500 registered tourist agencies in Serbia.
He pointed out that in future, the ministry will pay attention to "receptive tourism", that is the policy of attracting guests from abroad. Support measures for this type of tourism will be introduced for the first time, he said.
Dimitrijevic confirmed that he will repeat his demand to introduce VAT breaks for agencies that bring foreign tourists to Serbia. He added that the ministry is considering beginning with incentives that will enable agencies to receive a certain percentage of the total tourism revenue.
According to Dimitrijevic, this is a constituting part of the tourism development strategy which should be completed this month and whose basic aim is to make Serbia a more attractive tourist destination.
He explained that the strategy will also refer to tourism management, promotional activities and productivity of the tourist industry. The granting of first licences should represent the beginning of a more ambitious tourist policy that the ministry has been promoting in the last 12 months. The policy is based on the Law on tourism, which is in turn in accordance with the EU regulations and standards.
The law will enable an increase in the quality of services, staff training and the level of professionalism, said Dimitrijevic and added that Serbia is becoming increasingly attractive for tourists. The Financial Time's assessment of Belgrade as the destination of future will considerably add to Serbia's attractiveness, he concluded.
