At a press conference held in the premises of the Minel-Elip company where the CDs were destroyed, Senic pointed out that this company will dispose of confiscated pirated goods in future as well. He stressed that the process is one of the preconditions for Serbia's entry into the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and the EU.
Serbian Minister of Culture Dragan Kojadinovic said that Serbia can no longer wait when it comes to protecting copyrights and fighting piracy.
He particularly warned all legal publishers and manufacturers about this, since they have been the biggest generators of piracy so far. They declared themselves against piracy, but in practice published much smaller quantities than they reported, he explained.
Serbian Minister of Trade, Tourism and Services Bojan Dimitrijevic specified that as of today, 347,456 items or 10,442 kilos of confiscated goods are to be destroyed.
Dimitrijevic pointed out that the ministry is prepared to increase activities related to fighting piracy and announced that market inspectors will also be more active throughout Serbia.
A member of the government’s Anti-Piracy Commission Zoran Djokic said that today's disposal is the first such event performed in public in Serbia. Piracy, all the way from street vendors to production facilities, can only be crushed through joint action of all state organs, he concluded.
