First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic said today that Pristina does not have, nor will it ever have its own diplomatic mission in Belgrade.
"Regarding the brutal lie published on the website of the so-called Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kosovo, on which the Republic of Serbia is mentioned in the "embassies" section, I must point out that Pristina does not have, cannot have, nor will it ever have its own diplomatic mission in Belgrade, regardless of how they try to present that to their public.
There are 72 foreign diplomatic and consular missions at the level of embassies accredited in Belgrade, which represent sovereign and independent states, which self-proclaimed "Kosovo" is not, nor will it ever be.
During the technical dialogue, which has been going on since 2008, Belgrade and Pristina agreed on the deployment of liaison officers, who are physically located in the premises of the EU delegations in Belgrade and Pristina, respectively.
Liaison officers do not have diplomatic status, nor do they represent an overture to the opening of embassies, but rather their task is to help in mutual communication and to supervise the implementation of agreements reached. There was no mention ever of opening any embassies or giving them the responsibilities that embassies have," reads the statement of Minister Dacic.
