In a statement to the news agency Tanjug, Stojkovic said that the talks held with representatives of the Bulgarian judiciary on the weaknesses that have appeared in defining the position of the judiciary in Bulgaria, are of extraordinary importance since they can help prevent Serbia making the same mistakes her neighbours have made in the previous period.
According to Stojkovic, meetings with representatives of the Bulgarian judiciary are extremely important for Serbia, considering the fact that Bulgaria is a country that should join the European Union next year.
Stojkovic specified that during talks he was acquainted with weaknesses that appeared concerning the issue of constitutional position and the organisation of the judiciary in Bulgaria. He was also informed on what Serbia’s neighbours had to change and reasons why they are changing the constitution for a third time.
“This is extremely important for us so that we can shorten our journey towards Europe and avoid the mistakes made in Bulgaria in the previous period,” said Stojkovic and expressed the expectation that following these talks the best solution can be found for judiciary in Serbia.
The Serbian Minister of Justice also held meetings today with representatives of the Supreme Administrative Court, the Supreme Judicial Council and Bulgaria’s Prosecutor’s Office. Tomorrow he is scheduled to meet with the director of the Bulgarian Prison Administration.
