Significant reforms in energy sector implemented

Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic spoke today with representatives of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Mission about the improvement of the regulatory framework and the implementation of reforms in the energy sector, especially in Electroprivreda Srbija, current and planned investments and strategic directions of development in this area.

At the meeting with the IMF delegation, led by the Mission Chief Donal McGettigan, Djedovic Handanovic pointed out that in less than a year after the formation of the government, the Ministry of Mining and Energy has achieved significant results in practically all areas.

She stated that amendments to the Law on the Use of RES were adopted in the legislative sphere, which created the conditions for more green megawatts, while preserving the stability of the energy system.

According to her, significant investments in the distribution network have also been initiated, which will enable greater reliability of supply while reducing network losses.

McGettigan pointed out that the energy sector is at the center of the stand-by arrangement, praising the work of the Ministry and the government of Serbia so far.

He emphasised that significant reforms were implemented in the previous period and that the energy sector in Serbia is in a better condition than when the IMF programme had started.
