Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić said today that Serbia remains firmly committed to the UN system, multilateralism and respect for international law.
At the first meeting of the Joint Steering Committee of the UN-Republic of Serbia Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework 2026-2030, Đurić said that this gathering marks the beginning of a new phase of partnership between Serbia and the UN system, based on trust, shared responsibility and clearly defined results.
He stated that Serbia particularly appreciates the fact that the document recognises the importance of UNMIK’s operations in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1244, which is essential for consistent respect for international law, preservation of peace, security and the rights of all communities in Kosovo and Metohija.
Đurić said that the new framework is fully aligned with Serbia’s national development priorities, noting that the 2030 Agenda and the process of accession to the European Union are mutually complementary, as reforms in the areas of the rule of law, education, healthcare, digitalisation and social policy simultaneously contribute to the fulfilment of the Sustainable Development Goals and approximation to European standards.
Serbia has achieved more than 50% of the fulfilment of the Sustainable Development Goals, which is above the global average, the Minister emphasised, particularly highlighting progress in the areas of health, poverty reduction, gender equality and women’s empowerment.
UN Resident Coordinator in the Republic of Serbia Matilde Mordt and Minister of European Integration Nemanja Starović also addressed the gathering.
Starović emphasised that Serbia views European integration and the implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda as interconnected processes contributing to the same goal – building a more prosperous, inclusive and resilient society.
He noted that Serbia has localised the Sustainable Development Goals, adapted them to its own circumstances, priorities, and institutional framework, and improved coordination of the reform process by establishing the Operational Team for Accession to the European Union.
