Cooperation with JICA on new projects in field of energy

Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic spoke today with a mission of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) about cooperation on new projects in the field of energy, primarily the construction of the “Bistrica” pumped-storage hydroelectric power station.

The visit of this mission, led by Director of JICA for Europe Eri Nakamura, is the result of the intensification of JICA's work on the examination of the "Bistrica" project, which followed the successful visit of the competent minister to Japan and the discussion with the JICA management about cooperation on this project.

Djedovic Handanovic said that the Serbian government recognised the construction of the "Bistrica" pumped-storage hydroelectric power station as one of the priorities in the entire energy sector, which is crucial for achieving strategic goals regarding the transition to clean energy sources.

She announced that the feasibility study for the "Bistrica" pumped-storage hydroelectric power station will be completed by the end of the year, which will determine the costs of the project, noting that work has also begun on the preparation of the environmental impact assessment study.

At the meeting with the JICA mission, which is on a visit to Belgrade this week, the construction of a desulphurisation plant at the "Nikola Tesla A" thermal power station was also discussed.
