Serbian Minister of Finance Mladjan Dinkic announced today that the citizen's property tax will be progressively increased up to 2.5 times this year, depending on the location. He said that in the first quarter of the year, the nominal budgetary revenues increased 21 percent against the same period last year, adding that all fields, except customs, reported substantial growth.
Dinkic told a press conference at the Serbian government that the collection of sales tax jumped 22.5 percent, which was influenced by the rise in turnover in businesses. The income tax was also increased as a result of the real growth in salaries.
Contributions for social security and pension fund increased 24.6 percent and 48 percent respectively, in relation to the same period last year.
The Minister of Finance stressed that the collection of excise tax jumped 20 percent, especially in April when check ups were intensified. The major growth of 36 percent was realised through the collection of excise tax on tobacco products.
Speaking about the increase in the citizen's property tax, Dinkic said that in the first city zone it will be increased 25 percent, in the second 14 percent, while in the third and fourth, the last year's tax will be increased only by the percent of growth in retail prices.
In the past two months, the tax police filed 174 criminal charges against 200 persons, said Dinkic, adding that the amount of tax evaded totals 688 million dinars. He told reporters that 65 businesses were closed for selling cigarettes without excise stamps, and the goods worth more than 20 million dinars were confiscated from illegal warehouses.
