On the occasion of the proposal that Agim Ceku be appointed Prime Minister of Kosovo, the Serbian government adopted at its session today a Conclusion in which it demands that Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General Soren Jessen-Petersen prevents Ceku's appointment, in line with his authority stated in UN SC Resolution 1244.
The full text of the Conclusion is as follows:
By the decision of the United Nations Security Council, talks on the future status of Kosovo-Metohija have begun. According to the Serbian parliament Resolution, Serbia has taken upon it its share of responsibilities and formed its negotiating team. It is thus actively and constructively participating in the talks to reach a consensual solution, in line with international law and generally accepted values.
The international community through its representatives took responsibility to create all the necessary conditions for the talks to be unhindered and held in line with the acknowledged democratic standards.
The Serbian government is extremely concerned that Agim Ceku has been proposed for Prime Minister of Kosovo-Metohija. Agim Ceku is under investigation by the Serbian courts on suspicion of having committed war crimes and an international warrant for his arrest has also been issued. The Serbian Ministry of Interior sent a criminal charge to the Hague Tribunal with the relevant information against Agim Ceku concerning the committed war crimes.
The Serbian government is demanding that Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General Soren Jessen-Petersen act according to his authority stated in the UN SC Resolution 1244 and prevent the appointment of Agim Ceku.
