First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic met, on the sidelines of the 43rd Summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Jakarta, with ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn.
The interlocutors expressed satisfaction with the fact that ASEAN member states recognized Serbia's strong interest in joining the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia.
During the talks, it was pointed out that by joining this treaty, Serbia's goal is to further strengthen political relations and cooperation with the traditionally friendly countries of Southeast Asia, members of ASEAN, that is, to further deepen cooperation with the countries of this region on a bilateral and multilateral level.
Dacic thanked once again for the valuable assistance provided by the ASEAN Secretariat to Serbia by providing appropriate guidelines in order to bring the accession process to the desired goal.
Also, the Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs noted that Serbia is proud of decades of friendship and strong ties with the countries of Southeast Asia that go back to the 50s and 60s of the last century, from the period of the foundation and most intensive activities of the Non-Aligned Movement.
The interlocutors assessed that the accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia at ASEAN provides a lot of opportunities for the development of cooperation in various fields, given that the region of Southeast Asia, to which ASEAN member states belong, is one of the most dynamic, richest and the most diverse regions in the world.
