Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica said today during talks with Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs Dora Bakoyanni that while searching for a solution for the future status of Kosovo-Metohija it is necessary to consider the stability of the region, and pointed out that any forced solution would have unforeseen results.
Kostunica said that it is necessary to reach a lasting solution for Kosovo-Metohija through dialogue and compromise, maintaining the basic principles of the international law of the inviolability of a state’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He said that Serbia is ready to provide essential autonomy to Kosovo-Metohija.
Bakoyanni, who is on her first official visit to Belgrade, having been elected to office two weeks ago, said that Greece wishes to play a constructive role in safeguarding stability in the region.
She said that it would not be good if time limitations are imposed on the negotiations on the future status of Kosovo-Metohija, and a hasty decision is brought.
Bakoyanni especially emphasised the importance of fulfilling standards on Kosovo-Metohija, and ensuring the safety of Serbian orthodox churches and monasteries.
The collocutors stressed that ties between Serbia and Greece are characterised by a traditionally friendly relationship, and said that the two countries will continue to enhance cooperation in all areas.
