Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Miroljub Labus and German Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs Frank-Walter Steinmeier agreed today that if Serbia manages to resolve important political issues, there will be possibilities for the country to accelerate its economic development and speed up its EU accession process.
Labus pointed out that Germany is one of Serbia's most important foreign trade partners and said he believes that bilateral relations will also improve in the forthcoming period.
Steinmeier stressed that German businessmen are interested in investing in Serbia and that economic cooperation between the countries can be expanded, especially in the telecommunications sector.
He acknowledged Serbia's progress in the implementation of economic reforms and said that Germany will continue to support the EU integration process of Serbia as well as of the entire Western Balkans.
Steinmeier and Labus also considered possible scenarios that could follow the referendum in Montenegro and discussed the beginning of talks on the future status of Kosovo-Metohija.
