US donates body cameras to traffic police

Minister of the Interior Bratislav Gasic and Ambassador of the United States of America (US) to Serbia Christopher Hill signed today the Agreement on the donation of 60 body cameras for police officers, which will be used from 1 September during traffic control by traffic officers on the highway going through Belgrade and interceptors throughout Serbia.

On that occasion, Gasic expressed his gratitude to the US Embassy in Belgrade, the International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Programme of the US Department of Justice (ICITAP) and the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs of the US Department of State (INL) for their contribution to the modernisation and strengthening of the Serbian Ministry of the Interior.

The Minister emphasised that the use of this equipment will further increase the transparency of work of the traffic police and contribute to greater safety of all traffic participants, as well as police officers.

Hill stated that body cameras, which are otherwise well accepted in many European countries and the US, help to increase the trust of citizens in law enforcement officers because they guarantee transparency and responsibility of their work.

The Ambassador expressed his satisfaction with the continuation of close cooperation with the Serbian Ministry of the Interior, as well as with the introduction of new technologies in order to improve the work of the police, assessing that Serbia is a country that strives to move forward in all fields.
